The Final Countdown

Well, it's now less than a week before my flight, and lately I've been keeping myself up at night just thinking about it. I'm way pumped to be going to Spain, and to be honest, it can't come soon enough. I finally sent my info to my school so they can send me what they call my "ISIC Card", and I figure this means my International Student Identification Card - Card. How redundant, like the University of Maryland University College. Anyway, this time next week I'll be sitting in Frankfurt International on my layover on the way to Madrid-Barajas.

During my brief hour or so in Germany, I'm making it my goal to get a domestic German beer at one of the airport bars. I have no intentions of going to Germany any time soon, and I definitely believe in the old adage: when in Rome. So I'll hopefully be doing as the Germans do, but it's going to be around 06:30 in the morning. Now as a well-hydrated college student, I've never started my morning with a beer and had it turn out to be a bad day, and I believe next week will be no different. Once I get to Madrid, my cousin and her family will pick me up and we'll take my stuff to their apartment. I've been in constant contact with her for months, and I just sent her a photocopy of my passport so that I can get an abono transporte - a sort of monthly metro pass. I'll be using the underground to travel to school every day, and a prepaid transportation pass will give me unlimited access to the city. I'll be packing this weekend, and just sort of getting all my things together. I somehow need to track down my Spanish-English dictionary, and I'm going to find a nice, classic novel to take on the plane. I leave Wednesday, so Tuesday night I'm watching my favorite TV show L O S T live for the last time, and going to dinner with my family. I think I'll get a nice dose of America - a hamburger - for my last meal in the states. I'll be posting an entry on packing before I go, but until then, I'll leave you with this thought: Due to the time difference, I'll be like, travelling into the future, man. Far out. I hope that doesn't kill your vibe or anything. Peace out.

Hasta luego,

Brian
